Day 8 : Uvita to San Jose

Click here to listen several 4 second clips of the birds singing in the morning in Uvita

We had another beautiful morning. We had until 11 am to leave the hotel, so we had plenty of time to check out the beach on the north side of Punta Uvita. There were a few people on the beach near the access point on the highway, but it was deserted for the most part. The waves on this side of the point were bigger. Some surfers and kayakers were out in the water. It was nice.

Regrettably, we had to hit the road and go to San Jose, because our flight left the next day. On the highway, we stopped one last time to look at the ocean.

As we climbed into the mountains, we stopped to take a picture of the Pacific below, and the mountains covered with mist and rain.

We got to the Pan-American highway, and found ourselves in absurdly long lines of traffic stuck behind slow-moving trucks. The road was all mountains, and hardly any passing lanes. Due to the slow speed of some of the trucks, you were pretty much forced to pass in whatever straight sections of the road there were, even if they were nominally no-passing. Rain was falling on and off as we went over the mountains. There were places that would have had panoramic views on clear days, but all you could see were clouds. As we came into a town, in the other direction we saw a man riding his bicycle up the mountain with a huge truck right behind him, followed by a long line of trucks and cars. Such is driving in Costa Rica.
